The Kenya Judo Federation President leads a studded lineup dubbed "New Dawn Fresh NOCK"

Kenya Judo Federation President Shadrack Maluki has officially launched his bid for the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) presidency under a formation labelled "New Dawn Fresh NOCK."

Maluki, who is the current First Vice President of NOCK, is seeking to succeed Dr. Paul Tergat in the forthcoming national elections slated for Thursday, 24 April.

Two-time Olympic silver medalist Tergat will be vacating the seat after serving the maximum two four-year terms.

In his manifesto, Maluki listed three service pillars - transform, empower and inspire - to guide his long-term vision of transforming NOCK into "an organization of excellence."

Top on his agenda, if elected, is to keep up the gains made during his eight years as NOCK First Vice President, while committing to a goal of holistic youth sports development.

"Working under the leadership of president Dr. Paul Tergat, we have transformed the National Olympic Committee of Kenya into a modern and model sports organization," Maluki mentioned.

"During this period, Kenya has registered some of the most remarkable achievements at the Olympics. These are the gains I wish to protect and enhance as president over the next four years.”

Describing himself as a “faithful, dutiful and loyal servant of sports”, Maluki intends to “build a larger house” with all national federations towards actualizing what he referred to as "an industry of sport that will nurture, scout and develop teams to a global level."

Maluki also outlined five service plans his office will work towards namely: becoming an Athlete-centred organization, leading with Integrity, Inclusivity and Prosperity, Empowerment and Innovation, and Financial Stability and Suitability.

“A new dawn has come, and I make a commitment to deliver to Kenyans, athletes, and federations a body that will be united as one, and with a goal of focusing its attention to athletes, and the Olympic movement,” he said.

"I have worn the shoes of an international athlete in judo and have been there, serving loyally as Vice President. I know all the tricks, and will serve with ease and gratitude."

In a pretty much studded lineup, Maluki, who also holds the position of Africa Judo Union Chairperson, was flanked by Athletics Kenya Executive Member and Youth Director Barnaba Korir, who is gunning for the NOCK First Vice President seat.

Also present were federation presidents from rugby, table tennis, hockey, cycling, fencing, volleyball, taekwondo, softball and triathlon.

A total of 25 NOCK affiliate federations will cast their votes (one for each) in the electoral congress, with four special category officials also participating in the process.

The four include: IOC members Paul Tergat, women representative Pauvi Rawal, and athlete representatives Humphrey Kayange and Hellen Obiri.

Maluki, with his formal bid, becomes the second NOCK Presidential aspirant after the current Secretary General Francis Mutuku launched his manifesto last week.
